BRYANT DOWNS DARTMOUTH BEHIND STRONG SECOND HALF

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Quincy Allen led four players in double figures with 20 points as the Bryant men's basketball team overcame a halftime deficit to defeat Dartmouth, 82-75, in the home opener at the Chace Athletic Center on Wednesday night.
 
With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 1-2 on the year. Bryant now hits the road for the next three games, beginning Sunday at Valparaiso.
 
On Wednesday, Allen sparked a second-half rally for the Bulldogs, scoring 14 of his 20 points in the final half. He finished 7-of-11 from the field and added six rebounds, four blocks and three steals. The freshmen trio of Ashley Sims II (15 pts, 5 reb, 2 ast), Ty Tabales (15 pts, 4 ast, 2 stl) and Timofei Rudovskii (13 pts, 6 reb, 4 ast) all finished in double figures.

  • Tabales hit back-to-back threes that helped Bryant build a seven-point cushion halfway through the second half.
How it Happened
  • Sims scored five early points for the Bulldogs to keep things tight early.
  • Dartmouth, however, used a 7-2 run between medias to grab a 16-9 lead with 10:13 left in the opening half.
  • Rudovskii's first three of the game came late in the shot clock and pulled Bryant within four, 18-14, at the under-8 media.
  • Bryant clawed back into the game thanks to an energizing two-hand putback slam from Allen. Sims followed with a hard drive to the bucket, tying the game at 19-19.
  • A pair of Rudovskii free throws and a putback from Ethane Bourgade made it a quick 8-0 run and gave the Black and Gold a 23-19 edge with 4:47 left.
  • Dartmouth responded with the next five as Jayden Williams gave the Big Green a 24-23 lead with a three from the wing.

  • Dartmouth's Niko Abusara then finished in transition, completing the three-point play and giving the Big Green a 49-48 lead with 9:44 left.
  • Tabales answered for Bryant, drilling a three on the next possession to put Bryant back in front. He followed that with a triple from the top to give Bryant a 56-49 lead at the under-8 media.
  • Moments after Dartmouth hit a three to make it 59-56, Tabales responded with his third three of the half to give Bryant some breathing room.
  • Allen then took over, hitting consecutive threes to make it 72-58 with 4:02 left. The second three was setup by a stellar defensive play from Allen as he came from the weak side to block the shot at the rim. He then pulled up in transition to send the Chace into a frenzy.
  • Four Dartmouth threes pulled the Big Green back within single digits but a Sims dunk and two Tabales free throws put the game away.

  • Bryant finished the game 27-of-61 (44.3 percent) from the field, 10-of-29 (34.5 percent) from three and 18-of-22 (81.8 percent) from the line.
  • Dartmouth held a 41-37 edge on the glass but the Bulldogs outscored the Big Green in the paint, 32-28.
  • Bryant shot 52.9 percent (18-of-34) in the second half.
  • Bryant turned the ball over just seven times in the game.
  • Allen finished with 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the field. He was 4-of-7 from three and added six rebounds, four blocks and three steals in 32 minutes. He didn't commit a turnover.
  • Sims posted 15 points (7-11), five rebounds and two assists in his first career start.
  • Tabales scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half, finishing 4-of-14 from the field and 3-of-8 from three. He added four assists, two steals and didn't turn the ball over in 26 minutes.

  • Bryant now leads the all-time series with Dartmouth, 7-5.
  • The Bulldogs improve to 97-56 overall at the Chace since the beginning of the 2020-21 season.
  • Wednesday marked the first victory as the head coach of the Bulldogs for Jamion Christian.
  • Rudovskii has scored in double figures in each of the first three games of the year. His four assists were a season-high.
  • Allen finished in double figures for the 12th time in his career and posted the second 20-point effort of his collegiate career.
  • Allen's 20 points were two shy of his career high.
