SMITHFIELD, R.I. –
Eva Boogers scored her first collegiate goal but the Bryant field hockey team dropped a hard-fought 2-1 decision to Sacred Heart on Sunday afternoon at Cowen Field.
Sunday was the Bulldogs' second one-goal loss of the weekend and dropped the Black and Gold to 1-3 on the year.
Boogers' first-career goal was assisted by classmate
Filou Verhoeven and briefly tied the game at 1-1 in the third quarter. SHU, however, scored just over a minute later to make it 2-1.

- After Boogers tied the game in the 32nd minute, Sacred Heart converted on a scramble in front to take the lead in the 33rd minute.
First Quarter
- Sara DeSousa posted a pair of saves in a scoreless first quarter.
Second Quarter
- Sacred Heart broke the scoreless tie with a strike of good luck. Celia Benson lifted a ball inside the circle that was deflected by a Bryant stick and the change of direction sent it past DeSousa.
Third Quarter
- Bryant came out of the half with strong pressure and earned a quick penalty corner. Boogers inserted short to Verhoeven who quickly fired it back to the near post. Boogers deflected the play past the goalie for her first collegiate goal.
- Just over a minute later, the Pioneers earned a penalty corner and the initial attempt hit the post. In the scrum that followed, Amelia Pellegrini was able to find the ball and knock it home.
Fourth Quarter
- Bryant pressured but was unable to put a shot on goal in the final quarter.
Bryant Notes and Notables
- All three of Bryant's losses this season have been by one goal.
- Boogers collected her first collegiate goal.
- Verhoeven notched her first career assist and now has three points (1g, 1a) on the year.
- DeSousa made four saves in net for Bryant.
