SMITHFIELD, R.I. –
Caitlin Gallagher scored her third goal in the last two games, while
Sara DeSousa and
Maud van Lierop combined on a shutout to lift the Bryant field hockey team to a 1-0 victory over Stonehill on Friday afternoon at Cowen Field.
With the win, the Bulldogs finish their season-opening six-game homestand with a 3-3 record. The Bulldogs will play their first road game of the season on Sunday at Cornell (12 p.m.).
Gallagher, who had not scored since 2022 (18 games), has now scored three times in two games this week. Her goal came on Bryant's only penalty corner and shot on goal of the match.
DeSousa and van Lierop, meanwhile, helped the Black and Gold stave off a Stonehill squad that earned 10 penalty corners. DeSousa stopped a pair of shots in the first half, while van Lierop posted a career-high seven saves in the second half.

- The Skyhawks challenged van Lierop right away in the third quarter but she was able to sprawl along the goal line to deny a chance.
Fourth Quarter
- Stonehill then produced five penalty corners in the fourth quarter but Bryant's defense stood tall. van Lierop shined late in the quarter as she denied three consecutive shots off a penalty corner to keep the Skyhawks off the board.
