SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant field hockey rallied from a 3-0 halftime deficit, with
Filou Verhoeven's goal three minutes into the second overtime completing a remarkable comeback in the Bulldogs' 4-3 victory over Maine on Friday afternoon at Cowen Field.
Friday's victory marks Bryant's first ever over Maine and moves the Bulldogs to 5-9 overall and 1-3 in America East play.
Verhoeven finished with a goal and three assists, while
Eva Boogers notched three assists.
Natalie Griffin,
Linde van Leeuwen and
Callie Caito all scored second second-half goals to rally the Black and Gold.
Maud van Lierop notched a pair of saves to earn her first collegiate victory in cage.

- Bryant pulled within one in the 49th minute off a perfectly executed penalty corner. Boogers played short to Verhoeven and her drive was deflected home by a charging Griffin.
- The Bulldogs tied the game with under five minutes to play on another penalty corner. Verhoeven received the insertion and slid it to the right where van Leeuwen fired it home, tying the game.
First Overtime
- Maine earned the first two penalty corners of the overtime but Bryant was able to defend both.
Second Overtime
- Bryant was awarded a penalty corner three minutes into the second overtime. Boogers inserted short and Verhoeven ripped home the game winner to set off a wild celebration.
Bryant Notes and Notables
- Bryant picked up its first-ever victory over Maine. The Bulldogs had lost all 12 previous games to the Black Bears.
- The Bulldogs' four goals are the most they have scored in an America East game.
- The Black and Gold are now 5-9 overall and 1-3 in league play.
- Verhoeven recorded the game-winning goal and added three assists for a career-high five points.
- Verhoeven and Boogers' three assists tie the single-game DI program record set by Keighan Richardson in 2016.
