Volleyball defeats New Hampshire in remarkable reverse sweep

SMITHFIELD, R.I.– The Bryant women's volleyball team came back from trailing 0-2 against the New Hampshire Wildcats and won in a five set thriller on Friday night at the Chace Athletic Center. Madison Koeller, Arianna Ugolini, and Carolina Camacho all had double-doubles and helped power Bryant to their biggest conference win of the season.

COACH GARLACY'S COMMENTS 
"What an amazing team effort. So proud of this team's spirit and drive. They have each other's backs at all times and stayed together when the going got tough. Our setters distributed the ball well and created spaces for us to score. We showed such mental toughness!"
HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Set 1- New Hampshire would set the tone early in the match as they would make a run towards the middle of the first set and come away with a 25-18 victory. Bryant saw quality performances from Fabi Castro and Arianna Ugolini as the two of them would combine for 9 kills.
  • Set 2- UNH would continue to dominate through the second set and would capitalize on the Bulldogs errors. Bryant would get a boost off the bench from Nadine Abdat who would tally a crucial pair of kills. However ultimately Bryant would fall behind 0-2 as UNH would win 25-20.
  • Set 3- With their backs against the wall, the Bulldogs would not waver as they would go on a 12-6 run to open the third. The Wildcats however would claw back and take a 23-22 lead. The Black and Gold would manage to rally and would extend the match; winning 25-23. Ana Fuertes-Brito and Fabi Castro each had 5 kills in the set while London Hunt would also tally a pair of kills.
  • Set 4- The fourth set between the Bulldogs and Wildcats would prove to be yet another competitive battle as they both would exchange leads. However yet again, the Bulldogs would muster up enough to win the set 25-23 and force a fifth set. Aubrey LaPour's offense proved critical in this set as she would finish with 4 kills. Madison Koeller would also have an incredible set; finishing with 5 assists and a trio of aces.
  • Set 5- The final set between Bryant and UNH did not disappoint as they would both hold leads and demand the best out of their players. UNH would go up 11-9 and force a Bryant timeout. Following the stoppage of play, Bryant would go on a tear, outsourcing the Wildcats 6-1 and would complete the remarkable reverse sweep. Aubrey LaPour would add another three kills for Bryant and Arianna Ugolini would have a pivotal service ace. 
STATS
  • Fabi Castro led the Bulldogs with 15 kills against the Wildcats.
  • Brookelyn Talmadge was a force on both ends of the floor. She would finish with 12 kills and a team leading 4 blocks.
  • Carolina Camacho had another masterful performance as she would finish with 29 assists.
  • Madison Koeller led the Black and Gold in aces with 3 against the Wildcats.
  • Carrina Barron led the team in digs with 16. Four different Bryant players would play with double-digit digs. 
MATCH NOTES
  • Madison Koeller recorded a season high 22 assists for the Black and Gold.
  • Bryant is now 2-1 in matches that have gone the distance this season.
