Box Score 2 SMITHFIELD, R.I. –Bryant University men's tennis faced two Ivy League opponents over the weekend, as the Bulldogs fell, 5-2, at Harvard and, 7-0, at Brown.
The Bulldogs (1-4) opened their third weekend of spring play at Harvard on Friday night. The Crimson (4-2) swept the doubles point, but junior Luke Lorenz (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and sophomore Artur Jakubowski (Dallas, Texas) had a strong showing in the No. 3 slot, falling 7-6 to the Harvard pair of Michael Peters and Samuel Beren.
At No. 1 singles, redshirt-sophomore Matt Kuhar (Smithfield, R.I.) started and finished strong against Andy Zhou, winning in three games, 6-4, 6-7, 1-0. Senior Oliver Welsh (San Diego, Calif.) scored the Bulldogs second and final point at No. 6 singles, as he took down Peters in three, 7-5, 3-6, 1-0.
On Saturday, the Black and Gold took on the Bears (2-2) in the capital. The Bryant twosome of sophomore Jorge Ortiz-Garcia (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) and junior Josh Kliger (Newport Beach, Calif.) dominated Jack Haworth and Anthony Archo, 6-1, but the Bruno took home the doubles point after winning at No. 1 and No. 3.
The Bears sealed their 7-0 victory in singles play, including an impressive win at No. 1 singles, where Aaron Sandberg edge out Kuhar, 5-7, 6-2, 1-0. No. 3 and 4 singles were also decided in three games, respectfully. Lorenz was defeated by Greg Garcia, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3, while sophomore Michael Plutt (Weston, Fla.) fought but ultimately fell to Peter Litsky, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1.
"Results over the weekend are a bit disappointing," said head coach Ron Gendron. "I expect the month of February to bring a lot of sweat and effort."
The Bulldogs continue road play at the start of February, taking on Boston University next Sunday at 11 a.m.
