Box Score BRYANT FALLS TO EASTERN WASHINGTON, 3-0, IN FINAL MATCH OF OREGON CLASSIC
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Sophomore Claire Van Dyk (New Richmond, Wis.) led the Bulldog offense for the third-straight match, but the Bryant University volleyball team came up short against Eastern Washington in the final contest of the Oregon Classic Saturday, 3-0.
The Bulldogs fell in straight sets, 25-23, 25-14 and 25-20, despite the seven-kill match from Van Dyk and six more kills from frosh Sara DePouw (Cary, Ill.). The pair each served up an ace in the contest – as did junior libero Elena Lohr (Loveland, Ohio) and sophomore setter Jana Kmec (Stratford, Conn.) – but the Eagles (1-2) used an eight-kill night from Melissa Waelter to get past the Black and Gold in the final tournament matchup for both sides.
Kmec's 18 assists were a match best while Lohr added 10 digs. Kmec also chipped in nine digs and three kills, while three Bulldogs earned a block in the outing.
For EWU, Lindsay Niemeier dished out a side-high 15 assists with five kills and eight digs, while Ryann Ensurd's 16 digs paced the matchup. The Eagles put up nine blocks and six aces to earn their first win of the season.
On the tournament, Van Dyk racked up 22 kills with a pair of blocks and an ace to pace the Bulldogs and earn herself a spot of the Oregon Classic All-Tournament Team.
The Bulldogs will be back in action Sept. 7-8 at the Boston College Invitational in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
