Men's soccer tops Robert Morris, 2-1

BULLDOGS SCORE TWICE IN FIRST HALF TO NOTCH FIRST NEC VICTORY OF 2012

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's soccer team defeated Robert Morris, 2-1, Sunday afternoon in Smithfield.

Coming off a tough 1-0 loss to Saint Francis (PA) on Friday, the Bulldogs (3-3-1, 1-1) were able to respond with a victory Sunday, earning their first Northeast Conference victory of 2012.

The Colonials got on the board first in the 11th minute when Carl Reid received a pass from Miro Cabrilo, firing a shot into the back of the net from just outside the of the box.

The Bulldogs responded just over four minutes later when senior Eddie Curry (Massapequa, N.Y.) snuck a shot through a crowd of defenders off a Bryant free kick to register his first goal of the season.

The Black and Gold scored again in the 24th minute when senior Ryan Stone (Wakefield, R.I.) collected the ball in the box off a Matt Guerriero (Pickering, Ont.) corner kick, flicking a shot past Robert Morris keeper Toba Bolaji.

Bryant dominated play throughout the entire match, outshooting the visitors, 25-9. Freshman keeper Chris Knaub (Yarmouth, Maine) continues his impressive rookie campaign, making three saves in the winning effort. Bolaji stopped eight Bryant scoring chances, allowing the two first half goals.

The Bulldogs hit the road for a pair of NEC games over the weekend, at Mount St. Mary's on Friday and at Monmouth on Sunday.
