SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Head coach Tim O'Shea is pleased to announce the signing of Israeli Junior National Team forward Ben Altit (Herzeliya, Israel) to a National Letter of Intent to join the Bryant University men's basketball team for the 2011-12 season.
A 6-foot-9 forward out of Rothberg High School in Tel Aviv, Altit is a member of the Israeli U-18 National Team and averages 20 points and 10 rebounds per game as a starter for club team Maccabi Tel-Aviv. At 220 pounds, Altit led Maccabi to the 2011 Israel Cup title.
"We are thrilled to have him in the program," said O'Shea. "We think he's a very good player with even better potential, and we look forward to him having an immediate impact on our program starting this fall."
At Rothberg High School, Altit averaged 27 points per game and 10 boards per outing, recording a triple-double effort in his league quarterfinal matchup with 28 points, 11 rebounds and 10 blocks. He was named the Most Valuable Player of the High School Championship, a contest broadcast nationally throughout Israel.
Altit, the son of Max Altit and Einat Ron, was born April 4, 1993 in Tel Aviv, Israel and has three brothers.
