Box Score HOUSTON – The offensive came alive for the Bryant baseball team as the Bulldogs scored 11 runs on 15 hits en route to an 11-2 victory over Houston Baptist Saturday afternoon. It was the second win in as many days for the Bulldogs who will close out the series with the Huskies Sunday at 1 pm.
After taking the opener 5-2 Friday night, the Bulldogs found themselves trailing 2-0 after one inning as the Huskies scratched across a pair of runs off Bryant starter Brian O'Neil (North Reading, Mass.). The big blow coming on a two-run home run by Robbie Buller. But that would be all the scoring on the day for HBU as O'Neil would get out of the innings by getting Collin Hetzler to fly out to left with a pair of runners on base.
Bryant (2-3) would get a run back in the top of the second as Jordan English (Windsor Locks, Conn.) led off the inning lining a double down the left field line. English would move to third on a single to left by David Soltis (Plainville, Conn.) and would later score on error by Hetzler at shortstop.
An inning later, the Bulldogs pulled even with a two-out rally. After Joseph Carcone (New Hartford, Conn.) drew a walk, sophomore Kevin Brown (Northborough, Mass.) tripled to the gap in left-center to score Carcone and tie the game.
Bryant would add two more runs in the fourth as Soltis crossed the plate on a wild pitch and Mike DelPonte (Tewksbury, Mass.) came home following a single through the left side by Zachary Trenteseaux (Narragansett, R.I.).
Soltis had a huge day at the plate for the Bulldogs as the junior added an RBI double to left in the fifth and finished the day 3-for-5 at the plate with an RBI and run scored.
O'Neil pitched well on the mound as the junior righty allowed just two runs on three hits in five innings of work and striking out three Huskies on the day.
Sophomore Sal Lisanti (Bronx, N.Y.) closed out the ninth getting some help defensively from a double-play on a grounder to third and getting Luke Clements to strike out to end the game. English had two hits and scored twice while Tim Norton (Barnstable, Mass.) and Daniel St. George (Shelton, Conn.) each had two RBIs for Bryant.
