BULLDOGS AND COLONIALS PLAY TO, 0-0, TIE IN FINAL GAME OF PITT
INVITATIONAL; GUERY AND BROWN NAMED TO ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
PITTSBURGH, Pa.- Junior goalkeeper Neil Black (Roslyn Heights,
N.Y.) made seven stops in net to record a shutout as the Bryant
University men's soccer team played to a scoreless tie against
Robert Morris (1-3-1) on Sunday morning. The Bulldogs finished with
a 0-1-1 record over the weekend, good for third place in the Pitt
Invitational Tournament. Senior forward Matt Brown (South Easton,
Mass.) and sophomore midfielder Norbert Guery (Andover, Mass.) were
both named to the All-Tournament team. Brown registered four shots
with two on net in two games, while Guery played steady defense,
helping hold opponents to just two goals.
Neither found the net in the contest, although both teams did
find the woodwork.
Colonial sophomore David Torrance (Glasgow, Scotland / Langside
University) caught the left post just 60 seconds into the
contest. Manny Rodriguez then drew iron just 20 seconds into
the second half of play for Bryant, his shot from just outside the
18 hitting the left post and careening out of play. Torrance found
the cage unkind again in the second half. Off a corner kick in the
61st minute, the sophomore forward hit a side volley shot that
keeper Neil Black got just enough to deflect off the cross bar and
out of danger.
Bryant (1-3-1) outshot the Colonials 17 to 12, forcing senior
keeper Matt Felice (Missisagua, Ontario) to make seven stops on his
way to a shutout. Freshman Trevor Krapels (West Paterson, N.J.)
recorded two shots on net for the Bulldogs, who played their second
straight overtime game. Neil Black and Matt Brown were both named
Man of the Match for Bryant.
The Bulldogs will be back in action Tuesday night when they take
on the University of Hartford (7 p.m.).
