THREE FIRST HALF GOALS BURN BULLDOGS; FALL TO FORDHAM, 3-1,
SUNDAY AFTERNOON
BRONX, NY- Senior captain Manny Rodriguez (North
Branford, Conn.) scored his second goal of the season on a
penalty kick in the second half, but it was not enough as Bryant
fell to Fordham, 3-1, Sunday afternoon. The goal broke an eight
game scoreless streak for Bryant, who fell to 1-11-1 with the loss.
Fordham improved to 4-4-1, as they head into Atlantic-10 play this
week.
The scoring started early, as a mishandled ball by Bulldog
keeper Neil Black (Roslyn Heights, N.Y.) led to an
own goal that put Fordham up 1-0 just two minutes into the game. In
the 30th minute, John Pardini scored on a penalty kick
following a foul in the box by Bryant to make the score 2-0. The
Rams would tally one more time before the half, when Brett Heyder
rifled a shot from the left corner of the penalty box into the back
of the cage, giving Fordham a 3-0 lead at the break.
The Bulldogs came out strong in the second half, and were
finally able to get on the scoreboard after a foul in the box led
to a Manny Rodriguez penalty kick. Rodriguez was able to beat Ram
keeper Ryan Meara to cut the deficit to 3-1.
With 16 minutes to play, the Bulldogs had a chance to make it a
one goal game, when freshman Robb Rodriguez (North
Branford, Conn.) chipped a ball into the box over the head
of keeper Jon Brantincevic, but the header by Sean Kaukas
(Glastonbury, Conn.) went just wide. Bryant would have one
more scoring chance on a long shot from senior forward Matt
Brown (South Easton, Mass.), but it went wide of the net.
Walk-on freshman Andrew Snell (South Salem,
N.Y.) played solid game in net for the Bulldogs, not
allowing a goal in the second half.
Bryant will travel to play 24th ranked Brown Tuesday
night (7 p.m.).
