SYRACUSE, NY - Forward Dan Hammond (Brunswick,
Maine) scored a season-high 20 points and grabbed nine
rebounds to lead the Bryant University men's basketball team to a
67-61 non-conference road win Saturday at Le Moyne College Saturday
afternoon. The win, Bryant's sixth-straight and eight
of its last nine, improves the Bulldogs' record to 13-5
overall on the season.
Hammond, playing in his 113th career game for the Bulldogs, shot
well from the floor in the game as the senior made 8 of 15
shots including 3 of 6 from three-point range. One of those
three's came just before the end of the first half to send the
Bulldogs into the locker room at the break leading 33-32. For
Bryant, having the lead at the half was good news as the Bulldogs
entered the game with a 10-1 record this season when leading at the
break.
In the second half, the Bulldogs clamped down defensively as
Hammond and Chris Burns (Merrimack, NH) combined
for nine steals and played a key role in forcing Le Moyne (8-10)
into committing 21 turnovers in the game.
Bryant held a 54-50 lead with just over three minutes left but
two free throws from Jon Ezeokoli (South Orange,
NJ) followed by a jumper by Burns gave Bryant a 58-50 lead
and the Bulldogs would hold on from there. Burns finished with 19
points including 9 of 10 from the foul line while Ezeokoli stayed
hot, scoring 17 points on 5 of 9 shooting from the floor.
Bryant will host UMass Lowell next Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at the
Chace Athletic Center.
