BRYANT MEN DEFEAT
STONEHILL 70-55 CHRIS BURNS EQUALS CAREER-HIGH
WITH 31 POINTS AND 8 THREE'S
BOX SCORE
SMITHFIELD, RI - (1/13/07) Only two nights after
setting a career-high in points and tying a school record for
three-point field goals made in a game in Thursday's win over Pace,
Bryant senior guard Chris Burns matched those numbers as the guard
equaled his career-best with 31 points and tied the school record
yet again with eight made 3-point field goals to lead the Bulldogs
to a 70-55 win over visiting Stonehill at the Chace Athletic Center
Saturday.
Bryant (11-5, 9-4 NE-10) snapped a six-game losing skid to the
Skyhawks, the defending NCAA regional champion. The Bulldogs
made 11 three's in the game and finished the afternoon shooting 49
percent from the floor.
Stonehill (12-5, 7-5 NE-10) got a career-high 23 points from
Lance Clarke and made 19 of 28 free throws, but turned the ball
over a costly 19 times in the game.
Bryant led 28-23 at the break and used an 18-2 run midway
through the second half to pull away. A Ryan McLean follow up
basket gave Bryant a 52-35 edge while Burns drained his seventh
three of the game moments later to give Bryant a 55-35 advantage
with 11:35 left.
Stonehill would score eight-straight to pull within 60-45 but
Jon Ezeokoli scored on a pullup jumper and the Bulldogs would hold
on.
Nate Sudlow scored 11 points and had five assists while Dan
Hammond added eight points and two boards. Nick Smith, who
came into the game averaging 19 points per game for Stonehill, was
held to 10 points before fouling out in the final minutes.
Clarke added 9 rebounds for the Skyhawks.
Bryant will travel to Southern NH on Wednesday while Stonehill
will travel to American International College that same night.
