LA JOLLA, Calif. - The Bryant University women's volleyball
team opened its 2006 season with a 3-0 loss to sixth-ranked Cal
State Los Angeles Thursday afternoon in first round action of the
University of California - San Diego Triton Invitational. The
Bulldogs (0-2) would drop a similar 3-0 decision
to 12th-ranked Cal State San Bernardino later in the
evening.

Against the Golden Eagles of CS Los Angeles, senior
Vanessa Lavallee (Gilford, N.H.) paced the
Bulldogs with 10 kills to go with three digs and a solo
block. Senior Beth Schlatterer (Arlington Heights,
Ill.) added five kills while newcomer Likica
Grceva (Natick, Mass.) added four kills and six digs
defensively. The 5-foot-9 outside hitter is in her first year
with the Bulldogs since transferring from the University of
Maryland - Eastern Shore.
Game scores in the match were 30-17, 30-18, 30-13 as the
Bulldogs finished the match with 25 kills collectively while the
Golden Eagles, led by Luana Cavalvanti hit .435 offensively with a
match-high 12 kills.
Bryant junior setter Tiffany Garry (Frankfort,
Ill.) had 19 assists and led the Bulldogs with nine
digs.
Against Cal State San Bernardino, the Bulldogs fell 30-21,
30-16, 30-22 as Lavallee again paced the Bulldogs with seven kills.
Maureen Atkins (Fenton, Mo) had eight digs.
The Bulldogs will face host UC San Diego and Cal State Dominguez
Hills on Friday before concluding the 2006 Triton Invitational with
a single match against Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday.
