BRYANT VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO FRANKLIN PIERCE 3-2
Cegarra Breaks All-Time Career Blocks Record with her 500th
SMITHFIELD, RI
- The Bryant women's volleyball
team dropped a 3-2 decision to Franklin Pierce Friday evening at
the Chace Athletic Center, despite a 19-kill performance from
freshman Julie Geonnotti. Bryant senior
Jessica Cegarra of Danville, NH set Bryant's
all-time career blocks record with the 500th of her career in the
third game of the evening. She passes former standout Bumnni
Akinnusoto (Woonsocket, RI) who held the record at 499.
Franklin Pierce had never defeated
Bryant in 23 tries but got a strong effort from Caitlyn Parnell and
Emily Shultz to pull out the win. Parnell had 20 kills and two
blocks while Shultz added 15 kills and chipped in with 15 defensive
digs.
In the evening match, Dowling's Justyna Michon registered a
match-high 13 kills and Nikki Armstrong added 11 as the visiting
Golden Lions defeated Bryant 3-0. Cegarra had 12 kills for
the Bulldogs who were held to just .165 hitting offensively.
Bryant will host Florida Southern on Saturday at 11 a.m.
