The Bulldogs defeat Northeast-10 Conference opponent
Bentley 6-1
WALTHAM, Mass. – Bryant University used a pair of goals
from sophomore midfielder Tricia Spada (Dedham,
MA) to beat Bentley College, 6-1, in Northeast-10 women's soccer
action Tuesday afternoon. Bryant improves to 4-2-2 overall and
1-1-1 in the NE-10.
It did not take long for
Bryant to take the lead, a little over four minutes into the game
Spada was brought down just inside the top of the penalty area by
sophomore defender Emily Heller (Bedford, N.H./Manchester West) for
a penalty kick. Spada converted the attempt to give the Bulldogs
the early advantage.
The game remained 1-0 until late in the
first half when the Bulldogs would double their lead. After
receiving the ball in the 18-yard box, Melanie
Smith (Rehoboth, MA) was unable to shoot past sophomore
goalkeeper Kristin Stanmyer (New Paltz, N.Y./New Paltz HS), but the
rebound fell to Elise Davilli (Agawam,MA), who
slotted home the first goal of her collegiate career.
Bryant made the lead three just after
the break on a superb individual effort from Spada. She received
the ball on the left flank 40-yard from goal and proceeded to
dribbled past three Bentley defenders before shooting past Stanmyer
inside the far post from the top of the 18-yard box.
Bryant continued to press forward and
received goals from Maddie Bergeron (Westfield,
MA), Casey Grange (Methuen) and Stephanie
Zalewski (Parsippany, N.J.) all within the final 16
minutes of play.
The Bulldogs dominated
play throughout the afternoon, out shooting Bentley 20-8 and
holding an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks. Jessica
Neales (Swansea, MA) started in goal for Bryant playing 80
minutes and making three saves, while Krapels played the final ten
of the afternoon.
The Bulldogs return
to action on Thursday when they will host American
International.
