Muniz Powers Bulldogs Past Bears with 18 Kills Friday Night; Senior Needs Just Eight Kills To Set School Record

SMITHFIELD, RI – Bryant senior all-American Michelle Muniz (Guaynabo, P.R.) had 18 kills and 14 digs to help lead the Bryant University volleyball team to a 3-0 non-conference win over visiting NYIT Friday night at the Chace Athletic Center.  It's Bryant's fourth-straight win as the Bulldogs improve to 13-7 overall.  Game scores were 30-17, 30-27, 30-18.

For Muniz, her 18 kills on the night puts her just seven kills shy from tying Bryant's all-time career kills record held by former standout Maria Bras.  Bras had 2,045 during her career while Muniz will now enter Tuesday night's match at Stonehill with 2,038 career kills. 

In the match, the Bulldogs served strong, finishing with 12 aces on the night with Tiffany Garry (Frankfort, IL) and Maureen Atkins (Fenton, MO) each finishing with four.  Garry had 43 assists while Jessica Cegarra (Danville, NH), Vanessa Lavallee (Gilford, NH), and Lindsay Klix (Rochester Hills, MI) each had 10 kills apiece. 

NYIT, led by Zeynep Isik's 10 kills and 11 digs, drops to 7-12 on the season.  Olga Ivanova had eight kills and Lindsey Buss contributed 21 assists for the Bears. 
Bryant travels to Stonehill Tuesday night (7 pm).
