BENTLEY ENDS BRYANT VOLLEYBALL STREAK WITH 3-2
WIN
SMITHFIELD, RI – Bentley College got 17 kills from
Amber Gracey (Saline, MI) and 16 kills from
Christina Sadowski (Salem, NH) as the Falcons
defeated Bryant University, 3-2 at the Chace Athletic Center
Tuesday night. The loss snaps Bryant's 37-match regular
season conference win streak dating back to the 2002
season.
With the win, Bentley (17-5, 8-0 NE-10) takes over sole possession
of first place in the Northeast-10 Conference standings as the
Bulldogs, despite a career-high 32-kills from all-American
Michelle Muniz (Guaynabo, P.R.), (left) drops to
16-8 overall and 9-1 in the NE-10.
With first place on the line as the only two undefeated teams in
conference, both Bentley and Bryant did not disappoint the 800 fans
on hand. After the Falcons took the opening game 30-25, the
Bulldogs came back to win the second 30-26.
In the third, Bryant held a 20-18 advantage, but three quick points
keyed by a Carey Demos
(Bakersfield,
Calif.) kill, helped give the
Falcons the momentum and rolled to a 31-29 win.
Bryant would not quit, winning the fourth game 30-26 to force the
deciding fifth game. In the final stanza, Bryant held a 14-11
lead but could not close the door as the Falcons capitalized on a
big kill from Susan Harrahy (Nashua, NH) and a
block up front from Sadowski and Becca Rector (Greenwood
Village, Colo.) to pull even at 14-14 and move ahead
15-14, but a service error gave the ball back to Bryant with the
game tied 15-15.
A Bryant service gave the Falcons match point once again and this
time, the Falcons put it away as Herlihy beat the Bulldogs with a
kill down the middle. Bentley would tally 13 total blocks in
the match with Sadowski picking up seven. Bryant would get 15
kills from Jessica Cegarra
(Danville,
N.H.).
