BRYANT VOLLEYBALL DEFEATS SAINT ROSE 3-0 SATURDAY
ALBANY – The College of
Saint Rose women's volleyball team suffered its first
Northeast-10 Conference setback of the year with a 3-0 loss to
visiting Bryant University at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium this
afternoon. The match was decided by a total of 11 points as the
visiting Bulldogs (15-7/8-0 NE-10) won the opener 30-23 and took
the final two games by identical scores of 30-28.
In the process, the Bulldogs took over first place in the NE-10
from Saint Rose and extended its conference win streak to 36
matches dating back to 2002.
Senior outside hitter Michelle Muniz
(Guaynabo, Puerto
Rico/Maristas) finished 22 kills and 16 digs to go with
four blocks while junior middle hitter Jessica Cegarra
(Danville,
NH/Timberlane) added 12 kills and
seven blocks to lead Bryant.
Bryant owned a 17-16 lead in the first game and then
scored 13 of the final 19 points to gain an early advantage. The
momentum really turned in the second set after Bryant rallied from
a 21-15 deficit to take a two-game lead. Saint Rose (18-4/9-1
NE-10) almost turned the tables in the third set. The Golden
Knights forged a comeback from an 18-12 shortfall to tie the matter
up at 27-27. However, Bryant held on by scoring three of the
matches' final four points.
Sophomore outside hitter Stephanie Brink,
sophomore middle hitter Sally Munter and junior
middle hitter Michaela Jorgensen had eight kills
apiece to lead the Saint Rose offense. Junior setter
Shannon Campbell passed out 31 assists and came up
with eight digs.
Saint Rose will visit Bridgeport for a non-conference
match this Tuesday. Meanwhile, Bryant continues its trek west on
the New York Thruway for tomorrow's 3:00 pm match at Le
Moyne.
