SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Bryant University women's volleyball team was swept by UMBC, 3-0, at the Chace Athletic Center on Sunday, Sept 27.
The Bulldogs (7-12, 1-1 American East) kept the first and third sets tight, dropping both to the Retrievers (6-5, 2-0 AE) by a combined five points.

"Our first contact was problematic today, which did not allow our setters a good chance to run the offense. We saw good things from our outsides today and will continue to work to find the right combinations."
HOW IT HAPPENED:
SET 1- UMBC, 25-22
- The Retrievers used a 4-0 run to build a 12-8 lead.
- UMBC later scored six straight points to grow its advantage to match point, 24-16.
- The Bulldogs reeled off six straight points, highlighted by kills from Alvarado and Ruth Ochelli, to trim their deficit to 24-22, until UMBC notched a final kill.
SET 2- UMBC, 25-19
- An Alvarado kill and Curran ace brought Bryant down 13-11.
- UMBC scored on five of six rallies to extend its edge to 18-12.
- Two kills from Curran and a block assist from Curran and Brookelyn Talmadge brought the Bulldogs down 21-17, but they would not threaten closer.
SET 3- UMBC, 26-24
- Talmadge tallied three kills during a 7-2 surge that gave the Bulldogs a 14-10 lead.
- Kills from Layla Olatunde, Natalie Ricevuto and Curran pushed Bryant's advantage to 23-17.
- The Receivers went on a 9-1 run to come back and complete the sweep.
STATS AND NOTES:
- Olatunde logged seven kills on a .438 hitting percentage.
- Curran delivered two aces, bringing her season total to 26.
- Madison Keem recorded 19 assists while Madison Koeller produced 16.
- Ochelli finished with six kills and Talmadge finished with five.
- Curran has racked up 10-or-more digs in 12 matches this season.
