Box Score SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant men's soccer team defeated Western Michigan University, 5-1 on Wednesday, September 2 at Beirne Stadium in Smithfield, Rhode Island.
In the 40
th minute, junior
David Vilan headed a
Paco Fernandez cross into the top left corner to get the Black and Gold on the board. Just 95 seconds later, Vilan finished off a stunning solo goal with a driven shot into the net. Vilan collected the ball deep in his own half, beating multiple defenders in route to his second goal of the first half.
Out of the break, it took Jorge Rodriquez just 17 seconds to extend the Bulldog lead to 3-0. Rodriguez took a pass from
Angel Perez and beat his defender with multiple stepovers before firing a left-footed shot into the bottom corner.
In the last 10 minutes of the match, the Black and Gold found the net two more times. First
Jaiden Willems stole the ball along the sideline and cut in toward the box, blasting a shot past the keeper. In the final minute,
Caleb Chao was first to a loose ball after a Western Michigan corner kick. Chao fed a pass ahead to
Fermin Rodriguez, who took it on a breakaway from the halfway line. Rodriguez faked the goalie, and slotted in the fifth goal of the game for the Bulldogs.
