SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant men's soccer team defeated Providence College, 3-2, on Saturday, September 12 at Beirne Stadium in Smithfield, Rhode Island.
Providence struck first, with Alvaro Maneiro scoring in the ninth minute.
David Vilan scored six minutes later, heading in a
Fermin Rodriguez cross. The teams entered halftime tied at 1-1.
In the 52
th minute, Brian Garrepy hit a left footed shot from outside the box to give the Friars a 2-1 advantage.
Paco Fernandez responded with a wonder goal of his own in the 66
th minute, unleashing a shot from 30 yards out into the top right corner to tie the match at 2-2.
Bryant would find the winner in the 71
st, when
Ilay Krespi sent a long ball toward
Angel Perez. Perez headed it to Rodriguez, and the captain took two left footed touches toward the middle and fired. The Friars goalie got a hand to it, but it wound up in the back of the net, giving Bryant a 3-2 lead they would not relinquish.
