Box Score HAMDEN, Conn.  – A pair of third-quarter goals was the difference on Friday as Quinnipiac defeated the Bryant field hockey team, 2-1, in the season opener for both teams.
With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 0-1 on the year. Bryant wraps up its opening weekend on Sunday with a noon start at Hofstra.
On Friday, Maddy DeFilippo gave Bryant a 1-0 lead at the half but the Bobcats scored twice in a three-minute span in the third quarter to defeat the Bulldogs.

• The Bobcats scored twice in a three-minute span in third quarter, taking the lead on a penalty corner.

First Quarter

• Bryant controlled much of the possession in the first quarter and finally broke through on a great effort from DeFilippo.
• The Bulldogs forced a turnover and DeFilippo corralled the ball along the near sideline. Her initial pass was partially deflected and she quickly regained the ball and charged towards the cage. DeFilippo outwaited the keeper and slid the ball between her legs for the goal.

Second Quarter

• Both teams hunkered down in a quickly played second quarter.

Third Quarter

• Quinnipiac came out of the locker room and changed the momentum of the game, scoring twice to take the lead.
• Julia Lutz tied the game as she was able to tuck a shot inside the far post.
• Three minutes later, Evelyn Henderson gave QU a 2-1 lead as she converted on a penalty corner with just under 10 minutes to play in the quarter.

Fourth Quarter

• Bryant was able to produce a penalty corner but its shot attempt was blocked.

Bryant Notes and Notables

• Bryant is now 2-8 all-time vs Quinnipiac. The Bulldogs have lost each of the last eight.
• DeFilippo scored Bryant's first goal of the season for the second-straight year. The sophomore now has three career goals.
• Bryant has now lost each of its last 16 road games. It's last road victory came on Sept. 26, 2023 at Holy Cross.
