FIELD HOCKEY READY FOR 2026

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- The Bryant field hockey team begins its 28th season this weekend when travels to Quinnipiac and Hofstra.

Below is a look at the Bulldogs by position.

Forwards and Midfield
  • Bryant welcomes back its top three scorers from a season ago to bolster what should be a more experienced attack in 2026.
  • Callie Caito leads the way after producing a career-high six goals and 13 points in 2025. Caito has now scored 25 points in 36 games (0.69 ppg) over the last two seasons and was named to the Preseason All-America East team.
  • Megan Smith and Alexa Sedicino join Caito on the offensive end. Smith had a breakout sophomore year in which she posted five goals and 11 points, while Sedicino was Bryant's top playmaker, finishing with two goals and a team-high four assists.
  • The Black and Gold also welcome back several upper classmen in Julie Diderich, Carly Dimock, India Hayes and Kerin Birrch.
  • Diderich has appeared in 40 career games for the Bulldogs and is coming off her best offensive season in 2025. She potted her first career goal and added a pair of assists.
  • Dimock appeared in eight games a year ago and is looking to build off her successful performance during August camp.
  • Hayes enters her second season with the Bulldogs and played in all 18 games last fall. She has appeared in 32 career games between Bryant and Saint Louis. 
  • Birch emerged as a stalwart in the middle of the field for Bryant last fall, appearing in all 18 games.
  • Bryant will look to its sophomore class of Elyse Bouchard, Maddy DiFilippo, Emerson Johnson, Ellie Picard and Ella Murphy to take the next step this fall.
  • Bouchard earned a spot on the America East All-Rookie team after she posted a goal and three assists in her debut season. DiFilippo added a pair of goals in her rookie season last fall.
  • Johnson showed her playmaking potential last fall and will look to turn that into more points this season after scoring one goal as a freshman.
  • Picard and Murphy also got some run as rookies last fall, appearing in 16 and eight games, respectively. Picard notched an assist.
  • Bryant is also excited about the addition of Riley Morris, Lucy Nissen, Jasmijn van Leeuwen, Jordi Higgins and Ainara Xarau.
Defenders
  • Bryant's defensive unit will welcome the return of tri-captain Claire Joss and classmate Gabrielle Dwyer.
  • Joss and Dwyer both appeared in all 18 games a season ago, with Dwyer emerging as a key part of Bryant's defense over the course of the year.
  • They both contributed offensively, as well, with Joss posting two goals and two assists and Dwyer notching three assists. Dwyer also led Bryant with four defensive saves.
  • Bryant also returns upperclassman Liv Martino and sophomore Elsa Bishop. Martino has appeared in six career games, while Bishop appeared in all 18 last season.
  • The unit got a boost over the summer with the addition of Argentinian grad student Valentina Funes.
  • She'll join true freshman Sasha Hammond as the two faces for Bryant defensively this season.
Goalies
  • Bryant's most experienced position will be between the pipes as Sara DeSousa and Maud van Lierop return for third seasons with the Black and Gold.
  • DeSousa enters her senior year having appeared in 25 games over two seasons at Bryant. She owns a 6-11 career record and has a career GAA of 2.95. DeSousa posted her first-career shutout last season.
  • van Lierop made 14 starts last season, going 3-11 with a 3.01 GAA and a .648 save percentage. All three of her victories came via the shutout.
  • Moira Kenneally joins the group following a standout prep career at Westwood. She was a three-time all-league player, earning Tri-Valley League MVP honors as a senior.
