BRYANT DOWNS STONEHILL, 11-1, ON TUESDAY

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Justin Hackett went 3-for-4 with two RBI and four pitchers combined to allow just three hits as the Bryant baseball team picked up an 11-1 run-rule victory over Stonehill on Tuesday afternoon at Conaty Park.
 
With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 27-22 overall. The Bulldogs close out the regular season on Friday with a doubleheader at Marist.
 
On Tuesday, Bryant used a pair of four-run innings to pull away from the Skyhawks. Cam Papetti's two-run home run highlighted a four-run second, while Ellis Garcia and Hackett each clubbed two-run doubles in a four-run fourth.
 
Dylan Scudder, Greg Gorman, Jackson Vanesko and Jameson Dobis combined to allow just three hits and strikeout nine on the afternoon.

  • Papetti punctuated a four-run second with an opposite field two-run home run.
How it Happened
  • Stonehill grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the second. The Skyhawks put the first two runners on before Dylan Scudder induced a 4-6-3 double play. Tyler Redden, however, singled to left to make it 1-0.
  • Bryant responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Hackett opened the inning with an infield single to third and Gavin Greger and Charlie Saul loaded the bases with back-to-back bunt singles. A wild pitch scored the tying run and Hunter Kingsbury gave Bryant the lead with a sac fly. Papetti then drove a 2-0 pitch over the right field wall to make it 4-1.
  • The Bulldogs added a run in the fifth as Saul brought home Hackett with a sac fly to left.
  • Bryant pushed the lead to 9-1 with four more runs in the fourth. All four came with two outs as Ellis Garcia and Justin Hackett each posted two-run doubles.
  • The Black and Gold put the game away with two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Two walks and a single loaded the bases with one out and Jacob Gaudreau picked up an RBI with a sac fly to right. Alejandro Vazquez then singled through the middle to complete the run-rule victory.
