NINTH-INNING RALLY LIFTS BRYANT TO 4-3 WIN OVER MAINE ON THURSDAY

ORONO, Maine – Justin Hackett tied the game with a bunt single and a wild pitch plated the winning run as the Bryant baseball team rallied for two runs in the top of the ninth to earn a 4-3 victory over Maine on Thursday afternoon at Mahaney Diamond.

With only their third win when trailing after eight under head coach Ryan Klosterman, the Bulldogs improve to 17-10 overall and 5-2 in the America East. Game two of the series is scheduled for Friday afternoon at 5:00 p.m.

Bryant trailed 2-0 through four and 3-2 entering the top of the ninth before rallying past the Black Bears. In the ninth, Hunter Kingsbury led off with a first-pitch single and Charlie Saul beat out a sac bunt to put the first two runners on. A sac bunt and a strikeout was followed by an intentional walk to load the bases. Hackett fouled off the first pitch of the at-bat before laying down a perfect bunt up the third base line. The senior shortstop then raced down the line and beat the throw, tying the game at 3-3. A wild pitch on a 1-2 offering to Cam Papetti brought in pinch-runner Dylan Prince with the winning run.

Cole Schiff, the third Bryant pitcher of the afternoon, retired the Black Bears on just 11 pitches to record his first collegiate save in his 55th career appearance.
