SMITHFIELD, R.I. – NJIT rallied for six runs in the top of the ninth to stun the Bryant baseball team and earn an 12-10 victory in the series opener on Friday afternoon at Conaty Park.

How it Happened
  • NJIT grabbed a quick lead as Lorenzo Camilleri drove a breaking ball down the right-field line for a two-run home run.
  • Bryant put together its best chance of the game in the fourth as Greger walked and Hackett followed with a high fly ball to right that was lost in the sun and fell for a double. A hit batter loaded the bases with one out but Willitts raced off the mound to catch a foul pop before inducing a fly ball to center.
  • The Highlanders pushed their lead to 3-0 as Camilleri ripped a two-out single into center for an RBI.
  • Bryant tied the game with a two-out rally in the bottom of the fifth. Wensley reached with a single, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored Bryant's first run on a two-out single up the middle from Kingsbury. Greger followed with a bunt single and Hackett brought home a run with a single through the left side. NJIT went to the bullpen and Anthony Anzaldi was up 0-2 on the batter when Greger struck. Greger took off from third as the pitcher came set and slid in safely ahead of the throw home.
  • NJIT would retake the lead in the top of the sixth. The Highlanders loaded the bases with no outs before the Bulldogs got a strikeout. Cole Campbell then beat out a potential inning-ending double play to score a run.
  • Bryant responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning to take its first lead. Story walked and Irizarry doubled to put two on and Wensley followed with a two-run single through the right side. Greger made it 6-4 as he roped a 1-2 breaking ball into right field for an RBI single.
  • NJIT was able to tie the game in the top of the seventh. A leadoff double started the inning and Jack Stead brought in a run with a single. With two outs and a runner on second, Conner Rippo hit a soft ground ball up the middle that was misplayed, allowing the tying run to score. Rowin O'Connor then hit a sinking liner to center that got by the dive of Greger and rolled into center. Kingsbury collected the ball and fired a strike to Hackett who's relay to the plate was just in time to nab Rippo and keep the game tied.
  • The Black and Gold then spun a huge 6-4-3 double play to get out of a jam in the top of the eighth.
  • It set the stage for the Bulldogs to take the lead with three runs in the bottom of the eighth. Wensley doubled, Garcia singled and Kingsley was HBP to load the bases with no outs. A wild pitch scored Wensley and Greger made it 9-6 with a two-run double to right.
  • NJIT rallied in the top of the ninth, loading the bases with three singles. Rippo then greeted reliever Tommy Flaherty with a double into the left field corner that cleared the bases and tied the game at 9-9. Brody Levin then fouled off three-straight 2-2 pitches before knocking a single through the right side to give the Highlanders a 10-9 lead. A two-out fielding error allowed NJIT to take an 11-9 lead. An infield single made it 12-9.
