SMITHFIELD, R.I.- Emily DeGeorge and Riley O'Mara combined for 10 goals in an offensive showcase that saw the Bryant Women's Lacrosse earn a definitive 16-5 Opening Day victory over Sacred Heart at the Conaty Indoor Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, Bryant begins its 2026 campaign 1-0 and extends its win streak against the Pioneers to five. Bryant will hit the road next weekend to take on Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. First draw is set for 2:00 p.m.
DeGeorge had an emphatic return to the Bulldogs lineup on Saturday, leading the team with seven goals on her 22nd Birthday. She returns to the field for Bryant after missing the final three games of the 2025 season with injury. Last season, DeGeorge recorded a team high 42 goals to go along with seven assists.
Riley O'Mara provided additional firepower for Bryant with a hat-trick of her own while Rylee Slate scored a pair of goals for the Black and Gold.
Freshman Julia Girard put together an exceptional debut at the draw collecting nine draw controls against SHU. Kaelynn O'Brien gave additional support on the draw for Bryant, collecting five of her own and also causing four turnovers.
Jessica Tosone excelled on the defensive end finishing the day with six ground balls and three caused turnovers. Elise Larsen proved dominant in all areas of the game, concluding her day with five points (2g, 3a) three ground balls and three caused turnovers.

How it Happened
- Just under three minutes into the game, Leyna Schnetzer dialed up Riley O'Mara for the first points of the season off of a man-up opportunity, giving the Black and Gold a 1-0 lead.
- SHU's Jamie Tanner responded and tied the game at 1-1 after scoring off an assist from Taylor Farace.
- Schnetzer located DeGeorge who took advantage of a free run at the cage and buried a shot at 8:17 giving the lead back to the Bulldogs (2-1).
- Schnetzer's third assist of the day came with 7:05 to play in the opening quarter, finding O'Mara after passing out of a free-position attempt (3-1).
- Elise Larsen stole the ball away near Sacred Heart's crease and had an unobstructed shot at goal (4-1).
- Emma Wymes slipped between a pair of Pioneer defenders and extended Bryant's lead to four with 3:48 to play in the first (5-1).
- O'Mara capped off a 7-1 first quarter for the Bulldogs after scoring a free-position goal with 2:32 to play (7-1).
- DeGeorge opened the scoring in the second after receiving a feed from Elise Larsen and burying the shot just 21 seconds into the quarter (8-1).
- Tanner found the back of the net for the second time of the day, shrinking Bryant's lead to six points (8-2).
- After nearly nine minutes of scoreless action, Larsen found DeGeorge again with 1:50 to play in the half, extending the lead to 9-2.
- With time winding down in the first half, Jessica Wilhelm and Tosone helped set up Rylee Slate with a mad dash towards the cage where she would find the back of the net, right before time expired (10-2).
- Sacred Heart found early momentum in the second half, scoring two in a row.
- Bryant regained its composure and logged its first points of the second half when Tosone, sprinted towards goal and centered a perfect pass to Larsen who fired a well-placed shot into the back of the cage. (11-4).
- Schnetzer would find DeGeorge for her fifth goal of the day with 2:51 to play in the third (12-4).
- DeGeorge's sixth goal of the day came off a dish from Wymes at the 12:12 mark in the fourth quarter. (13-4).
- SHU's Tanner completed a hat-trick after scoring off a pass from Adisyn Bernhardt with 8:14 remaining in the contest (13-5).
- DeGeorge and Wymes would team up once again with 7:00 to play, giving DeGeorge her seventh goal of the game. (14-5).
- Slate got a free-position shot to find back nylon, giving Bryant a 10 point cushion and began a running clock with 6:10 remaining (15-5).
- Grayson Woodward scored her first goal of the season with 1:50 to close out the Opening Day win.
