BRYANT NAMED SPECIAL OLYMPICS BANNER NATIONAL BANNER SCHOOL

MITHFIELD, RI – Bryant University is proud to announce it has been recognized with the prestigious Special Olympics Unified Champion School national banner, honoring the university's commitment to fostering an inclusive campus community.

As a long-time partner with Special Olympics of Rhode Island, Bryant University has demonstrated exceptional dedication to inclusion through active student engagement and campus programming. The university's student body and student-athletes participate regularly in Special Olympics activities, and Bryant hosts multiple Special Olympics events on campus each year.

"This is an incredible honor for the entire Bryant University community," said Vice President for Athletics and Recreation Bill Smith. "Every year, our students, student-athletes, faculty and staff look forward to welcoming the Special Olympics to Bryant University. The partnership we have built over the years with the athletes, families, volunteers and everyone associated with Special Olympics is truly special and something that is very close to our hearts. We are proud to provide a welcoming home for this incredible event and to celebrate the athletes and the spirit, determination and joy they bring to our campus each year."

The Special Olympics Unified Champion School designation recognizes institutions that cultivate an inclusive school climate characterized by collaboration, engagement, and respect for all members of the campus community. Schools earning this national banner have demonstrated a sustained commitment to inclusion and creating meaningful opportunities for individuals of all abilities.

"Being the first university in Rhode Island to receive this national recognition is something we are incredibly proud of, but what makes it truly special is the commitment of our athletes and the students who show up alongside them," said Emma Desmond BBA '26, MBA '27, Bryant's Special Olympics Director and honors student.  "Our athletes are at the heart of everything we do. Watching them grow, build friendships, compete, and become such an important part of the Bryant community is what makes this program so meaningful. I hope this recognition is just the beginning of what we can continue to build at Bryant!"
