CAITO SCORES TWICE AS BRYANT GOES TO 2-0 WITH WIN OVER STONEHILL

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Callie Caito, Megan Smith and Gabrielle Dwyer all recorded multi-point afternoons as the Bryant field hockey team completed a perfect opening weekend with a 4-0 win over Stonehill on Sunday afternoon at Cowen Field.

With the win, the Bulldogs are 2-0 for the second time in three seasons and for just the third time in program history. Bryant continues its season-opening four-game homestand on Friday, September 5 vs Dartmouth.

Caito led the way with two goals and an assist, Smith recorded a goal and an assist and Dwyer picked up the first two assists of her career. Claire Joss added her first collegiate goal to complete a 10-goal opening weekend for the Black and Gold.

Key Moments
  • Smith and Joss scored just over two minutes apart in the beginning of the third quarter to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.
First Quarter
  • Stonehill controlled the first quarter, collecting five penalty corners. Bryant was able to stand tall and didn't surrender a single shot on goal.
Second Quarter
  • The Bulldogs tilted the field in the second quarter, outshooting Stonehill 4-1 and picking up five penalty corners.
  • The game, however, went to the break scoreless.
Third Quarter
  • Bryant got right to work in the second half, earning an APC less than a minute in. Dwyer's sweep towards the cage found the stick of Smith for her second goal of the weekend.
  • Just 2:30 later, Dwyer served as the stick stop and Joss' drive from the top of the circle found its way home for her first collegiate goal.
  • Caito scored her first goal of the game with just over two minutes left in the quarter. Smith shifted the ball to her left and Caito carried it on goal before flipping it home.
Fourth Quarter
  • Caito closed the scoring in the 58th minute as she finished off a ball from Alexa Sedicino.
Bryant Notes and Notables
  • Bryant is 2-0 for the second time in three seasons and just the third time in program history (2002, 2023, 2025).
  • Bryant's 10 goals in the first two games of the season are the most in program history.
  • Bryant has won each of the four meetings vs Stonehill as DI opponents.
  • Kellie Joyce becomes the first coach in program history to win each of her first two games.
  • Caito recorded her first-career multi-goal game. She scored three times in the first two games and has seven goals in her career.
  • Smith scored her second goal in as many games and also picked up her first-career assist.
  • After tying the single-game program record with three assists in the opener, Sedicino notched her fourth assist of the weekend.
  • Joss recorded the first goal of her collegiate career. It comes in her 27th career game.
  • Dwyer picked up the first two assists of her collegiate career.
  • Sara DeSousa notched her second consecutive shutout to open the year.
