Coleman and Rohwer combine for seven hits in victory over #5 UML

VESTAL, N.Y. – Makenna Coleman went 3-for-3 with three doubles and three RBI, and fellow sophomore Sam Rohwer recorded a 4-for-4 day as the fourth-seeded Bryant University softball team defeated gifted-seededUMass Lowell 10-2 in the first game of the America East softball tournament.

Lexi Powell went five innings in the victory, holding UML to four hits and two runs.

Bryant advances to face top seed and host Binghamton on Thursday morning at 11:00 am.

  • The Black and Gold scored four runs in the bottom of the third.
How it Happened
  • Sam Rohwer hit a single with one out, then four straight batters were walked, scoring two runs for the Bulldogs in the bottom of the third (2-0). Makenna Coleman then knocked a double down the right-field line, scoring two (4-0).
  • In the top of the fourth, the River Hawks tallied a run on a ground out (4-1).
  • Rohwer hit her second consecutive lead off single, and then Meaghan Houk was hit by a pitch. Bryce Clendenin then hit a ground ball to second base and beat out the throw, bringing home two in the bottom of the fourth (6-1).
  • In the bottom of the fifth, Coleman recorded a lead off double, followed by a Rohwer single. Hannah Cochran then hit an RBI-single, and then McKenzie McAloon hit a bloop RBI-single to center field, giving the Bulldogs a seven-run lead (8-1).
  • The River Hawks hit a solo home run to center in the top of the sixth (8-2).
  • In the bottom of the sixth, Clendenin knocked a single, followed by a Coleman RBI-double (9-2). The game ended on a UML error that brought in a run (10-2).
