DURHAM, N.C. -- The Bryant University women's tennis team fell to No. 8 Duke, 4-0, on Friday afternoon in the NCAA Women's Tennis Championships First Round.
The Bulldogs were trailing the Blue Devils following doubles play with two straight wins from Duke. Natalia Vela and Maria Jose Hernandez Diaz, who played in the No. 1 spot, were tied 3-3 with Duke's Irina Balus and Ellie Coleman before retiring the point.
The Blue and White finished it off in singles play to clinch the win with victories over Aurora Pedwell, Lisa Marie Dugec, and Caitlyn Munson. No. 1 and No. 2 singles had not finished their matches when the fourth point was earned.
Coach Cilli describes the match as the best competed match in the NCAA tournament that Bryant has attended to date.
