Key Moments

How it Happened
  • The Pioneers grabbed a quick 1-0 lead in the first. With two outs and two on, Steak Newman hit a ground ball to the right side that was knocked down by a diving Aleksei Goldhill. The runner on second, however, was able to race around and score as the ball squibbled away.
  • It remained 1-0 until the fifth when the Bulldogs struck for two runs. Gavin Greger hit a ground ball to second with the bases loaded and one out but the relay to first was in the dirt and skipped out of the first baseman's glove. Two runs scored on the play.
  • SHU quickly tied it with good team baseball in the top of the sixth. After a leadoff double, a fly ball to center and a ground out to second advanced the runner home.
  • Bryant answered back with a three-run home run from Durand in the bottom of the sixth. Drew Wyers was hit by a pitch and Noriega walked to put two on for Durand who lifted an 0-2 pitch over the wall in right center to make it 5-2.
  • The Pioneers would cut the lead to 5-4 in the top of the seventh. An RBI single made it 5-3 and then a second run scored as the Bulldogs threw the ball away on a rundown between third and home. SHU looked to take the lead as D'Amore drilled a ball to deep left center but Gavin Greger ran it down, making a tumbling catch to end the inning.
  • Bryant extended its lead to 9-4 with a four-run seventh. The Bulldogs loaded the bases and Noriega brought home two with a hard ground ball through the shift. Durand capped the inning with a two-run single to center.
  • The Bulldogs closed the scoring with a sac fly from Wyers in the eighth.
