Bryant set to face Michigan State Friday night in Cleveland

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The 15th-seeded Bryant men's basketball team faces No. 2 seed Michigan State in the first round of the 2025 NCAA Men's Basketball Championships South Region on Friday, March 21. Tip is set for 10:00 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on TBS.

For fans that are making the trip to Cleveland to watch the Bulldogs in March Madness, Bryant Alumni has put together a pregame event at Southern Tier Brewery from 6:00-9:00 p.m. For those that can't make the trip, Bryant has also planned regional watch parties in Providence, Boston and New York. THE SERIES
  • Bryant and Michigan State will be meeting for the first time in program history on Friday. 
  • The Bulldogs are familiar with the Big Ten, having played 13 games against the conference. Bryant is 0-13 vs Big Ten schools, most recently falling to Rutgers, 66-57, on Nov. 12, 2023.
NCAA TOURNAMENT
  • Bryant will be making its second trip to March Madness in Division I program history. The Bulldogs earned an automatic big in 2022 as the champion of the Northeast Conference.
  • In 2022, the Bulldogs played in the First Four in Dayton, Ohio and fell 93-82 to Wright St. 
BRYANT WINS AMERICA EAST CHAMPIONSHIP
  • Reggie Lewis Tournament Most Outstanding Player Earl Timberlake posted 17 points, four rebounds, five assists, four steals and two blocks to lead Bryant to a 79-59 victory over Maine in the America East Championship.
  • The title is the first for Bryant in the America East and capped a sweep of the regular season and postseason championships.
  • Barry Evans (19 pts, 7 reb) and Keyshawn Mitchell (14 pts, 12 reb) were both named to the All-Tournament Team. Mitchell recorded double-doubles in both the semifinals and the finals.
BULLDOGS RANKED NO. 24
  • Bryant was ranked No. 24 in this week's CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25. It marks the first time Brynat has been ranked since the 2021-22 season.
MARTELLI NAMED NABC MID-ATLANTIC COACH OF THE YEAR
  • Phil Martelli Jr. was named the NABC Mid-Atlantic Coach of the Year on Mar. 18. 
  • Martelli has led Bryant to a single season DI program record 23 victories this season. His 43 wins over the lat two years are the most in the first two years by a Bryant head coach in school history.
FIVE MORE THINGS TO KNOW
  1. Earl Timberlake was named both the America East Player of the Year and the America East Tournament Most Outstanding Player. He is the only player in the country averaging 15.0+ ppg, 8.0+ rpg, 4.5+ apg and 1.5+ bpg. In the postseason, Timberlake is averaging 18.7 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 5.3 apg, 2.7 bpg and 2.0 spg in three postseason games.
  2. Keyshawn Mitchell has posted double-doubles in each of the last two games and is averaging 14.0 ppg and 10.7 rpg in the postseason. Mitchell finished with 21 points in the semifinal and then added 14 points and 12 boards in the AE Championship. Mitchell also has a double-double against a high-major opponent this year, finishing with 21 and 12 at St. John's.
  3. Barry Evans also earned All-Tournament honors and has scored in double figures in each of the last nine games. Evans averaged 16.7 ppg in the AE Tournament, going for 20 in the semis and 19 in the finals.
  4. Kvonn Cramer has gone 16-of-21 from the field over his last four games. He is averaging 9.7 ppg and 9.0 rpg in three postseason games.
  5. Connor Withers gives the Black and Gold a wealth of experience and will appear in his 149th game on Friday. Withers is just 1-of-11 players in NCAA history with 1,200+ points, 700+ rebounds, 300+ assists, 150+ blocks and 175+ steals. 
  6. Bonus - Bryant features three players that have played in an NCAA Tournament game. Josh Ozabor came off the bench in Bryant's First Four game in 2022, while Earl Timberlake played in both games for Memphis in the same tournament. Jakai Robinson made an appearance for Miami in the Final Four in 2023, posting two points and two rebounds.
