BRYANT FACES IONA WEDNESDAY NIGHT IN NEW ROCHELLE

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant men's basketball team heads to New Rochelle, N.Y., on Wednesday to face Iona at the Hynes Athletics Center. Tip is set for 7:00 p.m.

Wednesday is Bryant's first of two games against teams from the MAAC this week. The Bulldogs host Marist on Saturday afternoon at the Chace at 4:00 p.m.

THE SERIES

  • Bryant and Iona are meeting for just the second time and for the first time since November of 2010.
  • In that game, played at a neutral site in Cleveland, Rapahel Jordan hit a three as time expired to give Bryant a 74-72 victory over the Gaels.

BRYANT FALLS TO BROWN ON FRIDAY NIGHT

  • Bryant fell behind 22-9 in the opening minutes at Brown and couldn't recover, falling 75-56 in Providence.
  • The Bulldogs rallied to make it a four-point game in the first half but Brown used 12-of-22 shooting from three to pull away.

TABALES NOW A 2X AMERICA EAST ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

  • Ty Tabales picked up his second-straight America East Rookie of the Week honor on Monday after averaging 18.5 ppg in a 1-1 week for the Black and Gold.
  • He has now scored in double figures in each of the last five games, averaging 14.5 ppg in the stretch. It has helped push him to 10.1 ppg on the year.
  • Tabales posted 18 points and 7 assists in a win over Stonehill before pouring in 19 points on Friday at Brown.  

FIVE MORE THINGS TO KNOW

  • Timofei Rudovskii had his streak of double-digit performances come to an end last Friday at Brown. He did, however, match his season high with eight rebounds and is averaging 7.3 rpg over his last three contests. 
  • Quincy Allen picked up 15 points at Brown and has now scored in double figures on six occassions this year. In addition, he blocked three shots and is now averaging a league-best 2.0 blocks per game. 
  • Ashley Sims II has collected four assists in each of the last two games and is second on the team with 2.2 apg this year.
  • Tabales' hot stretch has conicided with a good stretch of three-point shooting in which he is 15-of-38 from three over the last five games. He has hit multiple threes in each of the five games and has 11 in his last three.
  • Bryant's meeting with Iona and Marist this week closes out its season schedule against MAAC foes. Starting next year, the America East and MAAC will embark on the America East-MAAC Basketball Challenge in which each team will play two games between November 5-8.
A BIT ABOUT IONA
  • Iona enters Wednesday at 7-3 overall and 1-1 in the MAAC following an opening-weekend split with Quinnipiac and Sacred Heart.
  • The Gaels fell 89-68 to Quinnipiac on Friday before defeating SHU 81-69 on Sunday. 
  • Iona is averaging 83.0 ppg and also has wins over Hofstra, Princeton, Delaware and Oregon State.
  • CJ Anthony leads four players in double figures with 15.2 ppg.
