SMITHFIELD, R.I. –
Mamadi Jiana scored two goals in the first five minutes to lift the No. 5 Bryant University men's soccer team to a 4-2 win against UMass Lowell in the semifinals of the America East Championship.
The Bulldogs took a lead 39 seconds into the match when
Paco Fernandez launched a ball across the pitch to
Mamadi Jiana. Jiana brilliantly timed the pass and ran towards it in space, dribbling the ball into the face of the keeper before blasting it off his left foot into the corner for the goal.
Fermin Rodriguez added to the lead in the 29
th minute when he intercepted a ball in the Lowell backfield and skyrocketed it over the goalkeeper for the goal.
With this win in the books the Bulldogs book a ticket to the America East Championship against No. 2 Vermont. The Black and Gold have a record of 16-1-2 and will compete in the America East Championship on Sunday, November 16.
