Volleyball downs Devils on Tuesday night

SMITHFIELD, R.I.– The Bryant women's volleyball swept the Central Connecticut Blue Devils on Tuesday at the Chace Athletic Center. Aubrey LaPour would record 15 kills as the Bulldogs would improve to 12-4 on the season.

COACH GARLACY'S COMMENTS 
"We played super clean in the first two sets with Mo [Morgan] dominating at the net and frustrating CCSU attackers. We continue to serve aggressively and force our opponents out of system. Ari and Aubrey both played awesome and were very consistent. Carrina also led us defensively."
HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • Set 1- The Bulldogs wasted no time against CCSU, as they would jump out to an early lead thanks to kills from Arianna Ugolini, Brookelyn Talmadge, and Morgan Smith. The Bulldogs offense would not stop as they would cruise to 25-13 win to open the match. Aubrey LaPour had 4 kills and a service ace in the opening set for the Bulldogs. Brookelyn Talmadge would also finish with a pair of blocks.
  • Set 2- After exchanging leads to begin the second set, Bryant would go on an 11-3 run and begin to take control. This dominant surge would propel the Black and Gold to yet another set win; this time by a score of 25-15. LaPour would post another 7 kills to go along with a block and an ace. Carolina Camacho would also post 11 assists in the 2nd.
  • Set 3- Despite being down 2-0 Central Connecticut would not go quietly as they would make the third set the most challenging for the Black and Gold. The two sides would battle back and forth and would have a tie score of 20-20. From that point on Bryant would find their groove and go on a 5-1 run to win the set and complete the sweep against the Blue Devils. Arianna Ugolini and Aubrey LaPour would combine for 8 kills in the final set to close out the match. Ana Fuertes-Brito and London Hunt would also team up twice for blockchain the set.
STATS
  • Aubrey LaPour led the Bulldogs in kills for the match with 15 and hit .357. LaPour has also excelled in her new role as a six rotation player as she was able to land a pair of service aces in the match as well.
  • Carolina Camacho led the team in assists with 22 against the Blue Devils.
  • Morgan Smith had a great all around performance for the Black and Gold as she would tally 7 kills, 3 assists and 3 blocks.
  • Carrina Barron posted 15 digs on the evening against CCSU. She also had 4 assists and a service ace.
MATCH NOTES
  • Tonight's win marks the Bulldogs 7th straight victory against Central Connecticut.
  • Carolina Camacho extends her streak of  10 or more assists to 35 consecutive matches.
UP NEXT:
The Bulldogs will officially open conference play this Friday when they take on NJIT at 7:00 pm. The team will also face off against Dartmouth College for a non-conference match on Saturday at 4:00pm.
