Makayla Griffin scores brace in America East opener win

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Makayla Griffin scored twice and Catie Bean dished out three assists as the Bryant women's soccer team opened conference play with a victory for the first time since 2021 with a 4-3 triumph over NJIT on Sunday.

"As the score suggests, today's game was hard fought from start to finish. As we have for much of the season, we made another great start and showed a great mentality to respond with the third and fourth goals each time NJIT started to come back.  It's a very important three points to start the season."

  • Catherine Bean assisted three goals in Sunday's game to tie the D1 single game program record. This is Bryant's first win in seven games.

  • 13th minute - Bryant 1, NJIT 0 - Madison Luke kicked the ball from outside the box above the keeper's head. The GK was able to get her hands on the ball but wasn't able to stop the shot.

  • 14th minute - Bryant 2, NJIT 0 - Catherine Bean dribbled the ball right in front of the 18 before passing to Makayla Griffin who found the net for Bryant's second goal of the game.

  • 70th minute - Bryant 4, NJIT 2 - A pass from Catie Bean right outside of the net gives Samantha Zaslaw a perfect opportunity to bury the ball into the net.

  • 89th minute - Bryant 4, NJIT 3 - NJIT's Sofia Mignon tamed a loose ball and sent the ball past the keeper in the final minutes of the game.
