Volleyball heads to Queens for Kaiser Classic

SMITHFIELD, R.I.- The Bryant women's volleyball team travels to Queens this weekend where they will take part in the 10th Annual Jack Kaiser Classic at St. John's University. The Bulldogs will open the tournament with a Friday doubleheader against Long Island and Iona and then close things out on Saturday with an afternoon showdown against St. John's.
Bulldog Notes and Notables
  • Bryant enters the weekend 7-2 in tournament play so far this season. Some of their most notable wins during that stretch include a five set victory over FAU in the season opener and and 3-0 sweep to beat Army and win the Black Knight Invitational.
  • Aubrey LaPour is second in the America East for total kills with 146. She is averaging 3.24 k/s.
  • After breaking Bryant's Division I match record for service aces with 10 against Merrimack, Arianna Ugolini now leads the conference in both total and average aces.
  • Carolina Camacho is coming off of a double-double against the Warriors as she would finish with 18 assists and 11 digs.
  • The Bulldogs have two players in the America East Top 10 for blocks. Brookelyn Talmadge is 7th overall, averaging 0.85 blocks per set. London Hunt is 9th with an average of 0.81 blocks per set.

Scouting the Sharks
  • LIU's offense is led by senior outside hitter Camelia Melendez. So far this season, she has 90 kills through 36 sets. Melendez is also tied for the team lead in service aces with 9. 
  • Bria Plante has been a standout defensively for Long Island in 2024. She leads the NEC in blocks with 40 on the year and is averaging over one a set. 
  • The primary setter for the Sharks is Selina Koç. She currently ranks 3rd in the Northeast Conference for total assists with 186 and is averaging 5.31 a/s.
  • Alasha Colon leads the team in digs with 181.
  • Long Island is coached by Amable Martinez. He is in his second year with the team.

Scouting the Gaels
  • Iona's offense is led by senior outside hitter Kenzie Wiggins. Through 30 sets this year, she has tallied 94 kills (3.13 k/s).
  •  Jaylyn Simon and Emma Vu have been the main facilitators of the Gaels offense; combining for nearly 180 assists. Simon leads the duo with 99.
  • Three players for Iona have double-digits blocks at this point in the season. Taylor Timko leads the team with 18 rejections. She is followed by Grace Ehler (16) and Jen Soto (15).
  • Ava DeGuzman leads the Gaels with 106 digs through 32 sets.
  • Iona is coached by Andy Mueller. He is in his third season with the team.

Scouting the Red Storm
  • Erin Jones and Georgia Walther have combined for over 300 kills for the Johnnies in 2024. Jones has the current team lead with 159.
  • Wiktoria Kowalczyk is having a remarkable senior season for the Red Storm. She is currently averaging 9.88 a/s and has 405 total assists .
  • Ludovica Zola leads St. John's in blocks this year with 39 through 40 sets.
