Volleyball to compete in Black Knights Invitational at West Point

SMITHFIELD, R.I.- The Bryant women's volleyball team travels to West Point, New York this weekend to compete in the Black Knights Invitational hosted by Army West Point. The two day tournament will see the Bulldogs face off against Sacred Heart, Hofstra, and host Army.

Bulldog Notes and Notables
  • The first game of the weekend will see Bryant take on former conference rival Sacred Heart at 3:00 PM on September 13th. Last season, the Bulldogs and Pioneers went the distance and saw the Bulldogs pick up the win thanks to a strong fifth set. Aubrey LaPour and Arianna Ugolini would combine for 30 kills in the match.
  • Fabi Castro had a strong outing for the Black and Gold in their last appearance. Castro would tally 10 kills for Bryant as they would go on to defeat the Holy Cross Crusaders in straight sets.
  • London Hunt was dynamic for the Bulldog defense last time out; collecting 5 blocks.
  • Carolina Camacho will look to extend her streak of matches with 10 or more assists to 29 on Friday. This season she has a single game high of 33.

Scouting the Pioneers
  • Sacred Heart enters this season at 3-3 on the year. In their last outing against NJIT, the fell in five sets.
  • The Pioneers swept the MAAC women's volleyball awards this week with Camryn Luginbuhl being named the MAAC Player of the Week, Gaby Zovko earning Setter of the Week and Miliani Villarreal taking home Libero and Rookie of the Week honors. 
  • Luginbuhl leads the Sacred Heart offense so far this season with 103 kills
  • Zoko has already logged 201 assists in 2024 and is averaging 8.04 a/s.
  • On the defensive side, Cristina Montanez leads the team with 23 blocks, Emily Sawyer is right behind her with 21 of her own.

Scouting the Pride
  • This is the fifth meeting between Bryant and Hofstra. The two sides last squared off in 2022 and saw the Bulldogs get the win in four sets.
  • This season the Pride's offense is led by Izadora Stedile. Through 6 matches this season she currently stands at 69 kills.
  • Hofstra has see  two primary facilitators of their offense in Beatriz Alves and Ellie Pamatat. Alves leads the team with 102 assists this year while Pamatat is second with 94.
  • Iyanna Garvin and Emily Nunes both have a team leading 20 blocks so far in 2024. Garvin leads the two in solo blocks with 8.
  • Constanza Perez Sain leads the team and is second in the NCAA for service aces so far this year with 17 (0.94 sa/s).

Scouting the Black Knights
  • This is the fifth meeting all-time between the Bulldogs and the Black Knights.
  • Army's offense has been led by Kinsley Wallance and Chloe Murakami so far this season. Wallace leads the two with 74 kills while Murakami has 70 of her own.
  • The Black Knights main setter has been Juliette Myrick. In six matches and 23 sets she has posted 132 assists (5.74 a/s).
  • Tatum Grimes has led the Army defense so far this year with a team leading 18 blocks.
