Bryant falls short in an OT nail-biter against #20 Stony Brook at home

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University football team fell to #20 Stony Brook at Beirne Stadium on Saturday in overtime.
 
Landon Ruggieri had six receptions for 98 yards and two touchdowns. Tristen Riley caught his first career TD. Markiel Cockrell recorded a 75-yard score for his second rushing TD of the year. Brennan Myer threw for a career-high 333 yards and three TDs. Dylan Kedzior produced 147 all-purpose yards (100 rec, 47 rush).
 
Colin Elliott and Lonnie Rice led the defense with nine tackles a piece. Nathan Voorhis had a strip sack, and Gideon Bedada tallied his first career sack. Beau Shugarts matched his career-high of eight tackles.

  •  The Bulldogs went for a two-point conversion in overtime after scoring a TD, which was stopped short, resulting in a loss. 
How it Happened
  •  The Sea Wolves began the game with the ball and produced a ten-play touchdown drive that was capped off by a five-yard rushing score up the middle (7-0).
  • On the next possession, the Bulldogs threw an interception, which led to a 36-yard FG from Stony Brook, giving them a ten-point advantage (10-0).
  • The Black and Gold then stopped the Sea Wolves and then registered a 99-yard drive that was highlighted by a 37-yard catch from Marc Taglieri Jr. and a 15-yard TD catch from Ruggieri in the right corner of the endzone (10-7).
  • Stony Brook responded with a ten-play touchdown drive and scored off a one-yard TD run (17-7).
  • The Bulldogs had possession on the final drive of the half. But suffered a fumble, which resulted in the end of the half.
  • Bryant began the second half with the ball and produced a 30-yard field goal from Bryce Soli, cutting the deficit to ten (17-10).
  • Stony Brook countered with a five-play drive, during which the Sea Wolves scored on a 40-yard TD pass through the middle of the field (24-10).
  • On the next drive, Cockrell broke through the line for a 75-yard touchdown, making it a one-possession game (24-17).
  • To begin the fourth quarter, the Sea Wolves had the ball on their own 30, and then Voorhis got around the tackle and recorded a strip sack that Steve Lubischer recovered.
  • Myer then found Riley in the back of the end zone to tie the game at 24.
  • Both defenses stood strong in the remainder of the quarter, and the Sea Wolves missed a field goal, sending the game into OT.
  • Stony Brook began OT with the ball and scored on a rushing TD (31-24).
  • On the first play of the Bulldogs possession, Myer threw a lob to Ruggieri, which was hauled in for the score. Bryant then elected to go for two to earn a victory but was stopped short, ending the game (31-30).

  • Cockrell posted his second TD of the season and had a career-high 80 yards on the ground. His 75-yard TD was the longest play from scrimmage this season for the Bulldogs.
  • Elliot has had a career-high nine tackles in back-to-back games.
  • Rice tied his career-high of nine tackles.
  • Shugarts matched his career-high of eight tackles.
  • Voorhis has had a sack in back-to-back games and produced his first forced fumble of the year.
