Bryant edges Delaware, 85-84, on Monday

Box Score NEWARK, Del. – Barry Evans poured in a career-high 25 points and the Bryant men's basketball team withstood a late Delaware rally to earn an 85-84 victory on Monday night at the Bob Carpenter Center.

Bryant's victory is its first in three tries against Delaware and moves the Bulldogs to 3-1 on the year. The Bulldogs are now 2-0 on the road this year.  

Evans finished 10-of-14 from the field, including 3-of-5 from three, and added eight rebounds. Earl Timberlake collected 14 points, six rebounds and six assists, while Rafael Pinzon (13p, 4a) and Kam Farris (13p, 3-12 3pFG) also finished in double figures. Kvonn Cramer added seven points and seven rebounds in his return to Delaware.

  • Timberlake raced back and blocked a shot in transition with six seconds left to keep Bryant up by one. Timberlake and Connor Withers then teamed up to defend the game-winning attempt from Niels Lane that clanged off the rim.
How it Happened
  • Bryant jumped out to an 8-4 lead before the Blue Hens took the lead with back-to-back threes three minutes in.
  • UD led 14-10 at the under-16 but Farris quickly changed that. He was inserted at the timeout and quickly scored the next eight points to make it 18-14 in favor of the Bulldogs. Farris hit a wing three, sank a pullup jumper and then swished a second three.
  • The Blue Hens responded with a three-point play and a three from the top to make it 19-18, UD.
  • A driving layup from Withers made it 24-21 in favor of Bryant with 10:05 left but the Blue Hens would score the next seven to take a 28-24 lead.
  • Erik Timko's three-point play with 7:18 left pushed Delaware's lead to six, 33-27.
  • Evans then took over for the Bulldogs, swishing a three off an inbounds to start a stretch in which he scored seven of Bryant's next 10 points.
  • After Robinson tied the game at 35-35 with an and-1, Evans rose up for a foul-line jumper and a two-point lead for the Bulldogs.
  • Robinson helped Bryant close the half with the lead as he banked home a three with 13 seconds left to make it 45-42.
  • Bryant would take a 46-44 lead into the locker room.
  • The Black and Gold put their foot on the pedal, opening the second half with a 16-6 run. Pinzon hit a three to force an early UD timeout and Evans drilled a three from the wing to make it 58-48 just three minutes in.
  • Farris would push Bryant's lead to 16, 70-54, with a three from in front of the Bryant bench at the 14:26 mark.
  • The Blue Hens, however, would go on a 18-7 run over the next eight minutes to make it a 77-72 lead for the Bulldogs with 6:27 left.
  • Delaware clawed to within two, 83-81, before Evans put back his own miss with 1:25 left.
  • A three-point play for Delaware with 25 seconds left made it 85-84.
  • Timberlake then missed the front end of a 1-and-1 and Lane raced down the court. Timberlake caught him and blocked his shot with six seconds left. Delaware then inbounded to Lane and he drove to his right but both Timberlake and Withers were waiting to contest and the shot missed, securing Bryant's win.
