Fortuny and Reynolds lift the Bulldogs past NJIT at home

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Mariona Planes Fortuny tallied 25 points, and Kemari Reynolds recorded a 14-point and 12-rebound double-double in the Bryant University women's basketball team's 73-64 home victory against NJIT.

Martina Boba and Nia Scott tallied 11 points.

How it Happened

  • The Bulldogs opened the game on a 13-5 run into the first media timeout. Boba tallied four, Reynolds hit a three, Nia Scott had two, Fortuny posted two, and Mia Mancini scored two.
  • Fortuny scored the following four points, and Scott tallied four to end the quarter as the Black and Gold took a 23-12 lead into the second quarter.
  • Fortuny hit a three-pointer to begin the second quarter, and Reynolds scored eight straight points (two three-pointers), as NJIT recorded ten during that stretch, giving Bryant a 33-22 advantage with five minutes remaining in the half.
  • The Bulldogs closed the first half on a 12-5 run, resulting in a 45-27 halftime advantage.
  • NJUI outdueled Bryant 20-15, shrinking the Black and Gold's lead to 60-47, heading into the fourth quarter.
  • The Highlanders went on a 9-1 run in the first four minutes of the fourth quarter, making the score 61-56 and forcing a Bryant timeout.
  • The Bulldogs then responded out of the timeout on a 9-0 run, making the game out of reach with 2:45 remaining (70-56).  Fortuny posted four, Scott had two, Boba tallied two, and Reynolds hit one from the line.
