Bulldogs drop road game to CCSU

NEW BRITAIN, CONN. – Mariona Planes Fortuny scored 13 points and went 7-7 from the line in the Bryant University women's basketball team's 58-54 loss at Central Connecticut.

The Bulldogs surged for 25 points in the fourth quarter but couldn't overcome the 14-point deficit after the third quarter.

  • The Black and Gold shrunk the deficit to four (52-48) with 2:42 left in the game. CCSU then scored back-to-back buckets forcing the Bulldogs to foul.

How it Happened

  • CCSU began the game on fire from deep, hitting four triples to earn a 12-4 lead. Fortuny and Marta Neira Martinez each recorded two.
  • The Blue Devils earned a slight 8-7 edge resulting in a 20-11 lead after the first quarter. Martinez tallied five, and Brianna Frongillo posted two on a crossover layup.
  • The Bulldogs came storming back, thanks to good defense. Bryant outscored CCSU 10-4 in the first six minutes of the second period. Blanca Chasco and Lucie Castagne scored four each, and Bodziony finished a tough layup inside. Making the score 24-21 in favor of the Blue Devils.
  • Both defenses held strong for the remainder of the half, resulting in a 27-23 CCSU halftime lead. Bodziony hit two free throws during the stretch.
  • It was a battle at the begging of the third quarter, with CCSU outscoring Bryant 8-6 heading into the media timeout. Castagne tallied four, and Nicole Gallagher got on the board with two. (35-29)
  • CCSU stepped on the gas pedal, holding the Bulldogs scoreless and tallying eight, giving them a 14-point advantage (43-29) with 2:13 remaining in the quarter. Both teams didn't score for the final minute of the third.
  • The Bulldogs outscored the Blue Devils 25-15 in the fourth quarter but fell short 58-54 in the loss.

  • Bryant shot 36.5% from the field, 25% from deep, and 81.3% from the free-throw line.
  • CCSU outrebounded the Bulldogs 46-32.
  • Fortuny posted 13 points and went 7-7 from the line.
  • The Black and Gold recorded 10 steals.

 Notes

  • Fortuny recorded her sixth 10+ scoring effort of the season.
  • This is the third time the Bulldogs have grabbed at least 10 steals this season.
