Bulldogs face Howard in D.C. Saturday afternoon

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University football team heads to Washington, D.C., to face Howard in the 2018 finale on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

Series History

  • Saturday will be the first-ever meeting between Bryant and Howard.
  • The Bulldogs will also be facing a member of the MEAC for the first time in program history.
  • Bryant will be playing in the D.C., Virginia and Maryland area for just the second time in program history (Liberty).   

20th Season of Bryant Football

  • Bryant Athletics is celebrating the "20th Season of Bryant Football" in 2018-19.
  • The Bulldogs began the program in 1998 and played their first varsity season in 1999.

Bulldogs Notes and Notables

  • The Bulldogs enter the 2018 season finale with a 5-5 overall record. The Bulldogs have dropped each of their last three contests. 
  • A win would give the Black and Gold back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 2010-11. 
  • Bryant enters Saturday averaging 30.1 points per game and 396.3 yards of total offense. 
  • Senior Thomas Costigan (Stamford, Conn.) enters his final game as a Bulldog with 274 career tackles and 98 tackles this season. He needs two tackles to become the first player in program history to post back-to-back 100-tackle seasons. With 10 tackles, Costigan would tie the single-season record. 
  • Junior Tomas Wright (St. Augustine, Fla.) needs just one sack to become the single-season record holder. 
  • Sophomore Broghean McGovern (Haverhill, Mass.) made his second-career start and became the first QB in school history to score three touchdowns in a game. He rushed for two and also caught a touchdown.
  • Senior Vincent Nisivoccia (Nutley, N.J.) has caught a team-high 47 passes for 663 yards and six touchdowns.
  • Redshirt junior Jean Constant (Delray Beach, Fla.) set the program record with his fourth-career kick return for a touchdown last week. 

A bit about the Bison

  • Howard enters Saturday at 4-5 overall and 4-3 in the MEAC. 
  • The Bison opened the season with a pair of games against FBS members. They took on Ohio and Kent State. 
  • Howard is averaging 31 points per game offensively and is allowing 31 points per game defensively. 
  • Caylin Newton, younger brother of NFL QB Cam Newton, leads the offense. He's averaging 48 yards per game on the ground and 250 passing yards per game. 
  • Marcellos Allison leads the team with 65 tackles.
