Bulldogs cruise to #7 with 4-2 win at Dartmouth

Box Score

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – In what has been a road trip of firsts, the Bryant University field hockey team extended its program record-tying win streak to seven games with a convincing 4-2 victory over Dartmouth Wednesday afternoon in Hanover, N.H.

With the win, the Bulldogs (7-1) set the program record for the best record through eight games in Bryant field hockey history, while the Big Green fall to 1-4 on the year.

After 25 minutes of scoreless action, senior defender MaKayla Hancock (Skowhegan, Maine) found junior forward Rosie Bird (Hamilton, New Zealand) off a deflection to put the Bulldogs up, 1-0. Just over six minutes later, senior forwards Kayleigh Ballantyne (Gorham, Maine) and Mallory Hancock (Skowhegan, Maine) converted on a 2-on-1 for Ballantyne's first goal of the year, increasing Bryant's lead to 2-0.

With just over a minute until the break, the Big Green answered in the form of a Maggie Scanlon score to cut the Black and Gold lead to just one heading into halftime.

Almost 20 minutes into the second half, the Bulldogs added another score when junior forward Corinne Woods (Beverly, Mass.) put home her second of the season off a helper from Bird at the 54:52 mark. Less than three minutes later, senior midfielder Olivia Jankins (West Brookfield, Mass.) capped off an impressive day for the Bulldogs with her fifth marker of the year off MaKayla Hancock's second assist of the contest.

Dartmouth added one more score before the buzzer sounded but it was not enough as the Bulldogs offensive outburst was too much for the home team to overcome.

Senior Megan Hancock (Skowhegan, Maine) was again impressive in net stopping a season-high 10 Dartmouth shots en route to her seventh victory of the year.

The Black and Gold close out the month on a high note, completing a perfect 7-0 sweep of September. Ranking in the Division I RPI top 30 for the first time in program history, the Bulldogs have just three non-conference games left before beginning MAAC play on Oct. 11 at Siena.
