Box Score SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Four-straight goals, including a pair from senior midfielder Olivia Jankins (West Brookfield, Mass.), propelled the Bryant University field hockey team to its fourth consecutive victory, 4-3, Sunday afternoon at UMass Lowell.
The Riverhawks wasted little time jumping out to a commanding lead over the streaking Bulldogs, racking up a trio of scores within the first 15 minutes of play on Sunday. But Bryant's experience and resiliency paid off as the Bulldogs went on to score four-straight markers of their own to pick up yet another come-from-behind W.
Reigning MAAC Player of the Week, Rosie Bird (Hamilton, New Zealand) got things started for the Black and Gold with her seventh score of the season off a helper from sophomore Mikayla Fitzmaurice (Skowhegan, Maine) at the 17:47 mark. Less than 12 minutes later, Jankins put home her first of the afternoon, also off a corner, from Bird and Fitzmaurice.
Coming out of the break, the Bulldogs aggressive play paid off when senior forward Mallory Hancock (Skowhegan, Maine) beat UMass keeper Melanie Hopkins for her second of the season, knotting the score, 3-3.
In true dramatic fashion, the two squads remained gridlocked at 3-3 with just under 10 minutes to play until Jankins collected a rebound and tipped in her second of the contest to push Bryant to the 4-3 victory.
Senior Megan Hancock (Skowhegan, Maine) made three saves in her fourth win of the year, while Hopkins stopped seven Bryant chances despite the loss.
Trailing at one point in each of its four victories this season, Bryant will look to continue its stellar play over the weekend with a pair of games in St. Louis, Mo.
