BULLDOGS OPEN PRESEASON CAMP ON TUESDAY

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Led by 10th-year head coach Marty Fine, the Bryant University football team opened preseason camp and began its preparation for the 2013 season on Tuesday.

With a 57-39 career record in 10 seasons, Fine returns an experienced group this fall. The Bulldogs feature 17 returning starters and 40 returning letterwinners to a team that finished the 2012 season 4-7 but won four of its final five games.

Included in those returners is preseason Walter Payton Award Watch List wide receiver Jordan Harris (Lincoln University, Pa.), quarterback Mike Westerhaus (Farmingville, N.Y.) and All-New England defensive lineman Jeff Covitz (Reading, Mass.).

The Black and Gold also expect big things from the incoming freshman class and transfers and they got their first glimpse at them in Tuesday's camp opener.

Bryant will have just over three weeks to prepare for its season opener with Holy Cross on August 31. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium.
