Box Score FIELD HOCKEY DROPS TOUGH DECISION TO ALBANY FRIDAY IN SEASON OPENER
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University field hockey dropped its season opener to a very tough Albany team Friday afternoon, 8-0.
The Great Danes (1-0) got off to a quick start and never looked back, notching a quartet of goals in both halves to earn a convincing victory in Friday's season opener at the Friar Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I.
Senior Megan Hancock (Skowhegan, Maine) made a whopping 13 saves in the loss, but the seemingly endless Albany attack was too much for the Black and Gold (0-1) to handle. Senior defender MaKayla Hancock (Skowhegan, Maine) and sophomore defender Mikayla Fitzmaurice (Skowhegan, Maine) both picked up their first defensive saves of the year, as well.
Albany's Liza Morgan led all scorers with a three goals on the day, while Paula Heuser and Daphne Voormolen each added a score and an assist for the Great Danes.
The Bulldogs will have another opportunity to pick up their first win of 2013 on Sunday when they welcome familiar foe Colgate to the Bryant Turf Complex. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
